Technical Fest – HORIZON12 of BCREC in association with the Times of India.
B.C.Roy Engineering College, Durgapur popularly known as
BCREC in association with the Times of India (the official media partner)
organized their 10thedition of National Level Technical Fest –
HORIZON12 from 25th to 27thFebruary in a grandeur manner.
The other sponsors were 93.5 Red FM (Radio Partner) Pantaloons (Merchandise
Partner) Globsyn Skills (Gold Sponsor) and Ardent Collaborations and many more.
“This college was set up in 2000 by the Dr. B.C.Roy
Engineering College Society of the philanthropic visions of the group of
entrepreneurs based in Durgapur. It is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Bidhan
Chandra Roy, the architect of modern West Bengal. This college is approved by
AICTE. It is our great pride and privilege to declare that BCERC is the only
college from West Bengal to be selected for the Indo-US Universities EDUSAT.”

Professor Dr. Swapan Bhattacharya, Former Director of NIT
Durgapur was the Chief Guest who delivered his valuable lecture in the
inaugural ceremony on 25th which enlightened the students and highly
praised by the guests and teachers who were present in the auditorium. In fine
he advised the students in all to become a benchmark in their own domain and
not to be a mediocre and never to compromise with quality
in the field they have their passion. Dulal Mitra-President, S.N. Basu, the
Principal and Tarun Bhattacherjee , Treasurer of this College were also present
in the Dias and they all said a few words about the college and the fest.
“Today engineering students are eager to face new
challenges and thrive on risks. Whether it is concerning their technical
aptitude or general management skills, they are inclined towards broadening
their horizon of knowledge. HORIZONE’12 is one such attempt to let the budding
engineers from 35 different colleges and more than 1000 students took active
part to quench the thirst for knowledge on the war of mind and talent” – said
Amitava Chakraborty, the Head of the Corporate Affairs of BCREC.
In fact Horizon offered a wide range of events for the
students to showcase their creativity in the field of technology and
management. Major attractions for this event were TECHNOCRATZZ which provided a
platform for the budding talents to present their innovative ideas in the field
of technology. The lists of speakers are unending and the most noticeable were
Mr. Animesh Mukherjee who is presently an Asst. Professor in the Department of
Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Kharagpur. He worked as a post doctoral
researcher in the Complex Systems Lagrance Lab, Institute for Scientific
Interchange Foundation, Italy. He enthralled the young minds with the modern
concepts of Computer networking. He came along with other four scholars from
IIT Kharagpur. The others were Mr. Maunendra Sankar Desarkar. He slot was on
Amazing Amazon to Fascinating Face book – Recommendation Problems and
Algorithmic Frame works, Mr. Prasenjit Mondal whose presentation was on Medical
Image Processing and Mr. Sanjay Chatterjee’s presentation was on Bengali to
Hindi Machine Translation using Transfer Based Framework.
The most other attractive programme was ROBOTRIX where
latest Robot Technology was highlighted. Though technology of Robots is not new
but technology upgrades itself every day and Robotics maintains its status as
the thriving field of challenge with new inventions paving the way to
artificial intelligence. TECHNOCRATZZ (Technical Paper Presentation) show cased
new ideas in the field of modern technology and applied thought and delivered
something profound for building tomorrow methodical and industrial world.
BIZZCOGITO (B-Plan) for developing entrepreneurial abilities – it was a platform
to foster entrepreneurship at college. JUNKOTONICS – turn scrap to gold, where
people can make technical devices using junk and turn the scrap into gold. The
primary concern in today’s world is our environment. The 3 Rs –Reduce, Recycle,
Re-use were the essence to save the environmental degradation.
Filled with fun and excitement on the
closing day that is on 27th was illuminated by IGNITIA 2K12 where
top six teams competed in this General Knowledge and Entertainment Quiz. The
event was conducted by RJ Neil the renowned radio jockey in the West Bengal circle. He is currently a part of Oye FM. All the students and
others present applauded the quiz master for his Excellency.
The last day of Tech Fest saw the war of the Robots and the
closing ceremony was illuminated by IGNITIA 2K12 with RJ Niel’s charismatic
personality and humourous attitude being the centre of attraction. Top 6 teams
were shortlisted out of 362 teams for this mega event. Prizes worth
Rs.1,50,000/- were grabbed by the participants in 19 events making HORIZON 2012
a grand success.
