Celebration of 17th Foundation Day of Hem Sheela Model School, Durgapur



Hem Sheela Model School, Durgapur celebrated its 17th  Founders Day on 30 December 2012. The programme started at 5 p.m by garlanding the portrait of Swami Vivekananda and paying a glowing tribute to this legend on his 150th   birth anniversary. It was followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the eminent dignitaries. The plenary speaker for the evening was Dr. Charles Alan Taylor- Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of College Drury University, U.S.A He emphasized the wonderful relation that Drury shares with the sister school and he emphasized to set high objectives. Guests of Honour were Prof. A.N. Basu (Emeritus Prof. of Physics and Former Vice Chancellor, Jadavpur University), Mr. Sandhi Mukherjee (Retd I.P. S. , Former Inspector General, Govt. of W.B.), Mr. Debapriya Dasgupta (MBA from IIM, Kolkata, Practice Head Cognizant Kolkata), Dr. Omesh Khurana (Director, Medical & Health Services, Durgapur Steel Plant Main Hospital), Mr. Dhruba Banerjee (G. M Mills, Durgapur Steel Plant). The Principal gave the inaugural speech. Vice President Dr. Mrs Protima K Roy spoke about the off-campus Hemsheela-Protima Child and Woman Development Centre ,Khatguria wherein she emphasized about the progress made within this short span of 5 years. She also recognized the ladies of the Skill Training Centre and their handiworks displayed .Vice Principal Ms Anindita Home Chowdhury highlighted about the academic and cocurricular activities of our students in every field. Vice Principal Mr. Shankar Bardhan in his speech emphasized about the Skill Training Centre Khatguria  and its future prospect. Other eminent guests delivered their inspiring, enlightening speeches. The Toppers of AISSCE 2012, Best teachers,17 students of Protima Child and Woman Development Centre, magazine editor of 2011 were felicitated. The school magazine “Shraddhanjali” was released. But the best part of the day was the performance of the talented Hemsheelites.

 The students of Dhandabag section performed ‘The Queen Bee’ and J.N. Avenue Primary students performed ‘The Ignited mind’. Protima Child and Woman Development Centre performed a santhali dance on ‘Life and Festivity’. J.N. Avenue Senior Section performed ‘Echoing Green’ emphasizing on the conservation of flora and fauna. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Head Mistress Mrs. Ritwika Mukherjee and wishing everyone a Happy and Prosperous 2013.
