In Durgapur and Asansol Industrial complex there are a number of clubs and organizations who are rending various benevolent services to the people throughout the year. But the commendable activities of the philanthropic organization DSP Mahila Samaj supported by Durgapur Steel Plant under Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) since 1961 is highly praiseworthy especially to the people of Below Poverty Line (BPL) in this vast areas. It mainly works among the under privileged sections of the society through various schemes like Free Education, Health, Vocational Training and Employment generation, Spice making, Mother and Child Care Unit, Immunization center and many other benevolent activities.

President Mrs. Shobha Bajaj says, “DSP Mahila Samaj is the other name for the service to the mankind, providing education, employment, medical aid to the poor and down trodden people of the society. Recognizing that education is an integral part of human development and accepting the constitutional right of every person to education, SAIL has contributing to increase the literacy rates in the areas of its operations mainly among the underprivileged section of people. Particularly for the educationally backward people  of this city DSP is running six Mukul schools in the steel township and imparting education to a number of children below five years of age. Not only that our Samaj provides Books and stationeries, Mid-day Meal, Teefin, Uniform including shoes even the school bag and water bottles to all the students free of cost. Our Samaj is very conscious of their need and run the well equipped schools with all such facilities in order to dedicate them more in their studies. Here also the students are provided with books, uniforms, educational kits and all stationery items free of cost. A morning teefin and hot nourishing meal at noon is provided to them daily.
