Durgapur Municipal Corporation celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda in a gala way in Srijani Auditorium with grandeur on 4thFebruary 2012 . Crowds of enthusiastic people attended the programme. Smt Sunanda Ghosh the renowned singer from Kolkata, Shri Biplab Chattopadhyay and Shri Goutam Dutta of this City presented devotional and patriotic songs. Besides Debesh Thakur, the renowned elocutionist of Burdwan performed his Sruti NatakParam Purush Sri Ramkrishna and bemused the audiences.

Special mention goes to Shrutyonupras team who presented the ‘Abriti Alekshya’Ebar Phirao More” on the beliefs and feelings of Swami Vivekananda. It was composed and directed by Shri Goutam Chakraborty – the famous elocutionist of Durgapur. The whole programme enchanted the audiences in the Srijani Auditorium, City Center. Durgapur There was a pin drop of silence in the hall when they all performed the Alekshya. They were 14 in all and everybody performed to the excel. Mayor Rathin Roy specially thanked Shri Goutam Chakrabaorty for his incredible script writing, team work and direction which really enkindled the people more to rethink on the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda even now. The melodious tune of Dipankar Chakaborty who presented the relevant devotional and patriotic songs heightened much the whole programme of Shrutyonupras. Last year Goutam Chakraborty celebrated the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore throughout the year through various programme in various places of Durgapur. In honour of Tagore he released a CD of 150 poems “Ekdin Shatabarsha Pare” by his students from the age group of six to sixty which gathered much reputation of this famous elocutionist. He has plans to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda through various programme and the most attractive is the Drama by his kid artists on Swami Vibekanantda’s child life ‘Naam Jar Bile’ written by Shri Arati Kumar Bose, the famous writer of this City. The programme was ended by the Nrittya Alekshya on the Philosophy of Swamiji by the students of Durgapur Children’s Academy .

Rathin Roy, Mayor, Durgapur Municipal Corporation says, “Last year we have celebrated the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and Acharya Prafullya Chandra Roy in this auditorium through various programme. Today we are celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of the legend Swami Vivekananda. He needs no introduction for his is a household name in India. Swamiji was one of the greatest spiritual leaders of the modern world, a great lover of humanity whose unconditional love extended to all people without any distinctions of caste, class, creed, race, region or religion. In this auspicious occasion we are releasing one book in honour of the spiritual monk Swami Vivekananda as Bahurupe Sammukhe Tomar. Earlier we have published other two books ‘Ami Tomaderi Lok’in honour of Rabindra Nath Tagore and Srishti Sukher Ullase in memory of Kaji Najrul Islam. ”

He honoured all the famous writers of this valuable book who were present in the auditorium on that day and without whose contribution it was not possible for DMC (Durgapur Municipal Corporation) to publish such a worthy and informative book and he especially thanked Shri Ashoke Majumdar for his valuable involvement. Some rare pictures of Swamiji in the august convention of Chicago which was itself a vindication to the world of the wonderful doctrine really enriched the book.

“We heartily want that more and more people of this city come and take active part in various cultural activity. We want the manifestation of the budding stars of this industrial complex and we always extend our help in this noble mission and this center has been set up with this aim only.”- says Mayor further.
