Hem Sheela Model School, Durgapur celebrated its Annual Sports Day on 10th November 2012 with pomp and show. The opening ceremony started at about 08:15 a.m. with the opening song by the school choir which was followed by some special events like March Past by the four houses – Red (Narmada), Yellow (Ganga), Blue (Yamuna), Green (Cauvery), Mass Demonstration by the Dhandabag students, step aerobics etc. The spectacular was put up by the students of Protima Child and Woman Development Centre, Khatguria – for the first time through the Mass Demonstration.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Apurba Mukherjee (MLA & Mayor of Durgapur Municipal Corporation). Guest of honour was Dr. Mihir Nandi, other eminent guest being Mr. A.N. Sen (Former G.M. Project, D.S.P.), Mr. Dhrubo Banerjee (G.M., Mills, D.S.P.), Dr. Biswarup Mukherjee (D.S.P. Main Hospital). The Secretary of the Trust Mr. Bibekananda Koner declared the meet open. Principal, Mr. Soumen Chakraborty in his inaugural speech emphasized the significance of fair play and inspired each participants to play enthusiastically and in the true sportsman spirit.
There were total 68 events for the day. The students participated energetically and whole heartedly. It was a neck to neck competition some times. Children from Nursery and Preparatory participated in ‘Go-as-you-like’ and ‘Fancy dress’ displaying a colourful variety. Red house was declared as the 1st Runners up followed by the Green House and the winner was Yellow House. The programme ended with the four houses doing retreat march and the Vice Principal Mr. Sankar Bardhan delivered the vote of thanks.
