Earth Day Celebrations in DAV Model School, Durgapur
As trustees of the earth and contributory citizens of the world, the students of DAV Model School, Durgapur have taken a step to express their concern for protection of mother earth by participating in one of the most widely celebrated environment awareness event ‘ Earth Day Celebration 2013’.
The Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India has selected 10 schools from all over India as nodal centres and DAV Model School Durgapur has been bestowed with the honour of organizing Earth Day Celebrartion – 2013 as a nodal Centre in West Bengal. The school has organised activities to be conducted on 26/04/213 and 27/04/2013. A slogan writing contest for the school students was held on 26/04/2013 in the school auditorium. The participants were from classes VIII, IX and X. They drafted slogans on the theme ‘Save the Earth’.  A sit and draw competition and a Bicycle rally was held on 27/04/2013.
The Bicycle rally was flagged off from the school campus at 8:00 A.M. More than 200 students bearing the ‘Save the Earth’ logo rode down the streets of the steel township. The rally was led by the school choir singing verses in praise of the earth. The appeal was made loud and clean to the residents of the town that it is time to wake up to the call of the earth and work for a cleaner and greener city. “The school had invited students from neighbouring schools to participate in the sit and draw competition. Students from Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Durgapur Ispat Vidyalaya, Suren Chandra Modern School, Pranavanand Vidyamandir along with students of DAV Model school presented their creative and artistic skills on colourful posters. The entries will be sent to the Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India for judgement.” – says Papiya  Mukherjee,   Principal of this School.
There was an overwhelming response with enthusiastic participation from students within the school and also from other schools.
DAV Model School, Durgapur (W.B.) situated in the heart of Durgapur Steel Township had its humble beginning on 11th March, 1975 in 3 rooms with 45 students and 3 teachers. 
Over the years it has burgeoned into an institution of excellence with approximately 4500 students, 115 faculty members & 35 supporting staff paving its way today to stand tall and proud to meet the challenges of the ever changing global society. It has classes from LKG to XII and is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi. It is managed directly by DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi.
