Talent Series Tournament organized by Durgapur Tennis Club
 
Durgapur Tennis Club hosted  All India Tennis Association (AITA) Talent Series Tournament for under 14 Boys’ and Girls’ from 31st December 2012 to 3rd January 2013 in which approximately 30 children from all parts of the country were participated in 4 events viz. Boys’ Singles, Girls’ Singles, Boys’ Doubles and Girls’ Doubles.
 
The tournament was declared open by Shri Ajay Kumar Nand, IPS, the Commissioner of Police  on 31stDecember morning. Shri Nand praised the club for its infrastructure and enthusiasm and promised all support from his end. The event was enriched with the presence of Shri Apurba Mukhopadhyay, the Hon’ble Mayor of Durgapur Municipal Corporation and MLA.
 
Mr Gary O’Brian, the AITA Supervisor for the tournament praised the club for its hospitality and arrangement while Mr Ronny Sarkar, the ITF Referee for the tournament hoped that matches will be played in right spirits and enthusiasm and hoped that similar tournaments or even higher ranked tournaments will be regularly organised by the club in years to come.
 
Shri Pawan Kumar Lakhotia, the President of the Club welcomed all present and hoped for continued support from all quarters while Shri Vinay Bajoria, the Secretary of the Club thanked main sponsors, viz. Birla Cement, VOLVO and Suchita and other sponsors of the tournament for their patronage.
 
On the first day of the four day tournament total 14 matches in Boys Singles and Boys Doubles were played and the remaining matches were played on the other days.
“Matches were played in true sporting spirits at All India Tennis Association (AITA) Talent Series Tournament for under 14 Boys’ and Girls’ 4 events viz. Boys’ Singles, Girls’ Singles, Boys’ Doubles and Girls’ Doubles from 31st December 2012 to today. Finals were played on 3rd January and the following players were the winners Arghya Das in Boys’ singles; Yubrani Banerjee in Girls’ singles; Khan Bahadur Molla/Ishaan Tibrewal in Boys’ doubles and Roshni Sen/Adrija Biswas in Girls’ doubles” said Vinay Bajoria, the Secretary of the Club.
 
Trophies were handed over to the winner and finalists by Shri Apurba Mukhopadhyay, the Hon’ble Mayor of DMC and MLA. Attractive certificates were also given to all the participants. Shri Mihir Mitra and Shri S. K. Ghosh, respectively Secretary and Chief Operating Officer of Bengal Tennis Association and Shri Pawan Kumar Lakhotia the President of Durgapur Tennis Club were also present on the occasion. Shri  Ghosh praised the organisation of the Tennis Club and compared the hospitality and arrangement to International ATP level tournaments. He assured full support and cooperation to Durgapur Tennis Clun for organising higher ranked tournaments in the coming years.
          Last year, the club organised 6th Inter District Amateur Tennis Tournament on 3rd and 4th November 2012 in which more than 60 players from approximately 15 clubs including West Bengal premier clubs like Calcutta South Club and others participated across 4 events viz. Open Singles & Doubles and Veteran Singles & Doubles. The tournament was inaugurated by Police Commissioner Shri Ajay Kumar Nand and Prizes were given by Shri Apurba Mukherjee, the Hon’ble Mayor, Durgapur and MLA and Shri S.K. Ghosh, Chief Operating Officer, Bengal Tennis Association among others.
The club also hosted a youth tennis tournament this year in association with Rotary Club of Durgapur and Rotary Club of Durgapur Central. “We plan to host All India Rotary Tennis tournament in 2013” – said Mr. Pawan Kumar Lakhotia, the President of this Club..
Shri Vinay Bajoria the Secretary of the club proposed a vote of thanks at the end of the function.
